Leasing that equipment, or refreshing it on a shorter cycle, keeps the workshop's diagnostic reach current without repeatedly writing off hardware that still functions.

Ramps and lifts have a solid used market because they are standard equipment used across the trade, which keeps lenders comfortable financing them even for a newer or smaller garage. Diagnostic tools resell for far less once superseded, because a buyer is really paying for current vehicle coverage rather than the physical unit, so a lender is more likely to focus on the garage's trading history than the equipment itself when financing this kind of kit.

The mistake we see is buying a diagnostic system outright as a capital purchase and only later discovering that the manufacturer's software subscription, which is what actually keeps the tool useful, is a separate ongoing cost that continues well after the finance agreement ends. Building that subscription into the total cost of ownership before signing avoids a garage finding the real running cost of its diagnostic capability is considerably higher than the finance quote suggested.
